February Topic

The Fundamentals of Author Advertising

Visit his website — https://www.ThomasUmstattd.com

Chances are, you heard authors talk about buying ads on BookBub, Amazon, Facebook, GoodReads or elsewhere.

Do they work? How do you get started?

In this class, you will learn what works and what doesn't and how to get the best results with your book advertisements.

While most advertising opportunities are only available for independently published authors, it can help traditionally published authors to understand how advertising works so they can have beneficial conversations with their publishers.

Thomas Umstattd, Jr. built his first website at the age 13 and taught his first web design class at 16 years old. He graduated cum laude with a degree in Business Management from the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor. In 2007, while in college, he founded Umstattd Media, his first web design and media company. In 2009, he created, a website to help authors use the web to promote their books at AuthorTechTips.com. The site was twice featured in Writers Digest as one of the 101 most helpful websites for authors. In 2011, AuthorTechTips.com changed its name to AuthorMedia.com.

In 2014, his blog post Why Courtship is Fundamentally Flawed went viral and reached over a million people. It led to a successful Kickstarter campaign and in 2015 the book Courtship in Crisis.

He hosts the Novel Marketing PodcastThe Creative Funding Show, and Liberty Buzzard. He is also a popular podcast guest.

As an award-winning speaker, he teaches audiences all over the world. His friendly speaking style blends multimedia and audience participation. He offers audiences a unique perspective to help them use the web in a whole new way.
